All about Chandrayaan 1 Chandrayaan 2 Chandrayaan 3

Chandrayaan is the name of a series of lunar exploration missions by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The word "Chandrayaan" means "Mooncraft" in Sanskrit.

The first Chandrayaan mission, Chandrayaan-1, was launched in 2008. It was a successful mission that mapped the Moon's surface and studied its composition.

The second Chandrayaan mission, Chandrayaan-2, was launched in 2019. It included an orbiter, a lander, and a rover. The lander and rover were supposed to land on the Moon's South Pole, but they crashed during the landing.

The third Chandrayaan mission, Chandrayaan-3, was launched in 2023. It is a re-attempt to land a lander and rover on the Moon's South Pole.

The Chandrayaan missions have been a major achievement for the Indian space program. They have helped India to become a leading player in the field of lunar exploration.

Here is a summary of the three Chandrayaan missions:

  • Chandrayaan-1: Launched on 22 October 2008, Chandrayaan-1 was India's first lunar mission. It was a successful mission that mapped the Moon's surface and studied its composition. Chandrayaan-1 operated for 312 days and achieved 95% of its planned objectives.
  • Chandrayaan-2: Launched on 22 July 2019, Chandrayaan-2 included an orbiter, a lander, and a rover. The lander, Vikram, and the rover, Pragyan, were supposed to land on the Moon's South Pole, but they crashed during the landing. The orbiter is still in operation and is studying the Moon's surface.
  • Chandrayaan-3: Launched on 14 July 2023, Chandrayaan-3 is a re-attempt to land a lander and rover on the Moon's South Pole. The mission is expected to be completed in August 2023.
